Exploring Less Trodden Trails in Southern England
April 28 – May 8, 2019

A wild and lonely setting, Dartmoor is steeped in history with evidence of Bronze Age habitation from 4,000 to 2,600 years ago with stone circles and standing stones to later mining of tin and granite. The rolling moorland and hills topped by tors – contortions of granite on the summits - are flanked by wooded valleys, twisting, narrow lanes and grey farmhouses with their patchwork of green fields. From our base on the edge of Dartmoor, we will experience remote sections of Dartmoor and explore less traveled paths known only to locals and Dartmoor ponies. At the end of the day, we will enjoy the relaxed companionship to be found in traditional English pubs. This trip is suited to the easy-moderate hiker who also enjoys history and visiting ancient sites.

Easy Hiking in the Cotswolds, England
May 11 - 18, 2019

Carrying the designation “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and located in south central England, the Cotswolds is memorable for its rolling hills and meadows encompassing thatched and stone-slated medieval villages, churches and ancestral homes. Below ground is a bedrock of Jurassic limestone resulting in a rare grassland habitat and old growth beech woodlands providing last refuge for much flora and fauna as well as supplying the ubiquitous golden colored Cotswold stone used as building material over the millennia. Join Big Round World exploring this uniquely special and protected area as we walk through ancient hamlets, marvel at the grandeur of old stately homes and gardens and imagine the everyday lives of past denizens. Includes a guided tour of Bath and a visit to Blenheim Palace - both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Hike Across England Including Hadrian's Wall
June 24 – July 7, 2019

This fantastic hiking adventure combines one of England’s great walks, England's Coast to Coast, with a visit to Hadrian’s Wall. Experience the variety and beauty of the English countryside as we walk across three of England's most stunning national parks. Hadrian’s Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving Europe’s largest remaining Roman fortification - marking the northernmost limit of the Roman Empire. We will follow along part of its path, contemplating the stones, artifacts, a mile-castle or turret, and the history and humanity that have passed along the way. This trip is suited to regular hikers who like to hike 8-10 miles a day over varied and sometimes challenging terrain.

Monies raised from participating in this trip will be donated to the Lyons Regional Library. Please help us make this fundraiser as successful as possible.
